This replica of a Nauvoo Temple Sunstone is a proportional scale model of the sunstones on the original Nauvoo Temple. Each column had a starstone, sunstone, and moonstone. The Temple was under construction from 1841 until the departure of the Mormons in 1846. The Temple was burned by an arsonist in 1848. In 1850, all but the west end of the structure was destroyed by a tornado and the remaining portion was later razed due to instability.
Two sunstone models work well as bookends. The coloring is indicative of the coloring of the stone on the original Nauvoo temple. Each piece is cast individually and may have slight variations in color and texture.
